On Monday afternoon, reporters received a demonstration of the new video board at Sun Devil Stadium. Media saw the “Stomp The Bus” clip and the board’s standard interface. Josh Richard, ASU’s manager of game presentation, addressed the media on the stadium's newest and biggest feature.
Were there any stadiums that you toured to get a better idea of what you wanted from this video board?
Richard: I wasn’t a part of that process, but I know there a group of constituents from ASU that did do that.
What about the interactive part?
We can put live social media on the video board like we do with the two south boards. We do have information, we’re one of the few stadiums in the country that does interactive noise meter. So, with our partnership with Intel, they’ve put different centers throughout the stadium. When you see different sections on the board — north, south, east, west — those are actually capturing and taking in real-life data and putting it in the north board, so we have a meter.
On the board’s size:
It’s the eighth-largest video board in the country. Obviously, we want to be able to create an experience for our fans that rivals some of the top video boards in the country, which is what this does … It should give our fans access to more replays, more data and information they want to see live during the game.
How important was it to have this be the largest video board in the state? (The board is one foot bigger than Arizona’s)
It was very important. We always want to excel at what we do and be the top-of-the-line in the conference.
How has the gameday experience changed inside the stadium just in the past couple of years?
As the environment continues to change, we’re really trying to take it to the next level and excel throughout the Pac-12. Biggest thing from this year is when the team comes out of the north tunnel, we’re going to have a lot of different things going on there.
