Arizona State has made it its mission in this 2017 recruiting class to land the state's finest, and on Friday afternoon another local high caliber prospect, Gilbert Highland standout Tyler Johnson ranked as the state's no. 2 prospect in this class, joined the Sun Devil ranks as he announced his commitment to the hometown school.
The 6-4 245 Johnson is a Rivals250 member (comes in at no. 156) and while he's ranked as the no. 24 among all 2017 wide receivers, he has been recruited at ASU as the hybrid defensive end/linebacker Devilbacker prospect. His size, speed and explosiveness are traits that bode well for this role. After landing junior college transfer Doug Subtyl on Wednesday, a player with very similar measurements to Johnson, the Sun Devils have now landed some of the most physically impressive recruits ever at this vital position on ASU's defense.
