Sun Devils land Top-100 Siewert

Arizona State landed its second four-star 2016 hoops commitment Sunday when Lucas Siewert decided to put an early end to his recruitment.
Siewert, a skilled 6-foot-10 center/power forward prospect at Los Angeles (Calif.) Cathedral High School, felt the Sun Devils were a great landing spot according to his head coach William Middlebrooks.

"He fits perfectly, we think, in (ASU coach) Herb (Sendek's) system," Middlebrooks said. "He can set screens, pop out, is a shooter. I think of all the schools he's talked to and we've watched in the games it's the most natural fit for the strength of his game."
A Brazilian native, Siewert moved to the United States before his sophomore year of high school. He's known as a face up big man with range on his jumper and a good rebounder. He can play center or power forward.
Boston College, Cal, Texas Tech, Tulsa and Utah State had offered scholarships, according to Middlebrooks, and many other schools were pursuing Siewert, but there wasn't a need to draw out the process through another off-season of evaluations.
"It was a no brainer," Middlebrooks said. "He's a junior, he knows what he does, it's the best fit for him. There's no need to keep waiting around. It caters to what he's doing. Most of the college coaches are system oriented and there's a philosophy and this is just a great fit for him. The problem is you could end up in a place that isn't as good of a fit characteristically and they want to change you or take away your strengths. I think Herb is the best fit for him."
Middlebrooks said ASU will be getting a solid person in addition to a long and rangy frontcourt prospect with skill.
"He's a solid kid, high character, good student," Middlebrooks said. "He's becoming more talkative, the general natural progression most boys go through. He's coming out of his shell He's a normal kid, no trouble, just a solid kid."
The No. 100 overall recruit in the 2016 class, Siewert joins No. 79 Brendan Bailey, a 6-foot-7 small forward from Utah, as ASU's second Top-100 commitment in the class. The Sun Devils also have a four-star commit in 2017, Markus Howard, who is likely to be a Top-50 national recruit.
