One thing has been proven true about Arizona State football coach Todd Graham - he moves quickly. One day to the week that reports surfaced that offensive coordinator Mike Norvell was leaving to take the head coaching job at Memphis, he pulled the trigger to bring Southern Miss offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Chip Lindsey to Tempe.

So what impact will that bring?
Sophomore running back Demario Richard spoke with Devils Digest about the transition and his initial reaction to the Lindsey hire:
Q: How much did you know about Chip Lindsey before the news yesterday?
A: "I didn't know anything about him, to be honest with you. Didn't know anything about him until about 9 a.m. this morning. I saw that it was official that we signed him, looked him up and he had crazy offensive stats. Then coach (Taylor) Kelly called me and was like, 'Come meet the new OC. He's here already and he's ready to go.' I met him this morning, we went over the game plan for the year, went over the terminology we're going to use in the spring and I love him already."
Q: What did you talk about specifically that you liked?
A: "Everything. His approach - I loved it. I can tell he has so much respect for the kids and so much respect for other coaches, and he's a real teacher. Everything is positive with him. He's not a real vocal person - well, he wasn't really vocal today - but from what I've seen right now he's not really that vocal of a person but he gets the job done."
Q: Chip Lindsey had two 1,000-yard rushers this year. How encouraging is that for you and Kalen Ballage next year?
A: "Oh my god. That's a crazy stat. When coach Graham told me and I did my research, I was like, 'He had a 4,000-yard passer, two 1,000-yard rushers, a 1,000-yard receiver and two receivers with 800 (yards) and had 102 plays of over 20 yards? Yeah, that was the right hire right there.' Even the senior guys that met him today and the guys that are leaving love him. It was a great hire for coach. I'm glad we hired him."
Q: Had you watched any Southern Miss games this year?
A: "I have never seen a Southern Miss game. I probably got maybe two or three letters from Southern Miss from being recruited, but other than that I had never heard of them. But now, after looking up their stats they have the No. 1 offense in the country, so that was a good hire."
Q: Did coach Lindsey have anything special to say to you when you met?
A: "We're going to run the football. We get to the goal line and we're going to run the football. We're not going to try as much trickery at the 5- or 10-yard line. We're just going to run the football and get the job done."
Q: Have you gotten a chance to look at some of the footage of what he does scheme-wise?
A: "I haven't looked at the film yet, but I know from what I'm hearing he's been under coach Graham before and under coach Malzahn at Auburn. I'm pretty sure he knows all about the offense, and coach Graham wouldn't have hired somebody that doesn't know his offense or his scheme."
Q: He knows the terminology, but how much of a transition will there be before the Cactus Bowl vs. West Virginia?
A: "There won't even be a transition. It might be a slight change in some of the plays we run and the name of the plays, but everything is the same. Everything is good. Coach Graham was telling us that he doesn't want us to learn a whole new playbook, so he came in, he told us the plan and we'll be ready for it and we're going to do it. I'm ready to get with it."
