Jeremy Smith commits to ASU

Not many players can effectively play multiple positions, but last year not only did Jeremy Smith play both quarterback and wide receiver, but also led Missouri City (Tex.) Fort Bend Marshall High School to a playoff appearance. His exploits at the later role caught the eye of the Sun Devils and this morning the 6-3 185-pound Smith committed to the school.
"Jeremy is a leader and hard worker," said Smith's head coach James Williams. "He's mostly a leader by example, but when he has to speak up he will be a vocal leader too. He is a very gifted kid because not only does he also plays basketball and runs track, but he has started on all three teams since his freshman year.

"He has great body positioning and great hands. When the ball is thrown his way he will go ahead and get that ball. He will sell out for it - whether it's a jump ball of if it's low to the ground, he will get it. His height helps him with body positioning."
While Williams stated that Smith could still improve his overall game, he added that being a signal caller has helped him become a better wide receiver.
"As a quarterback he is a student of the game," Smith commented. "He understands coverages. He understands defenses. He knows what everybody around him is doing. He has been playing quarterback and wide receiver since he has been a freshman. This year I unfortunately don't have another quarterback to play him at receiver. So he will play mostly quarterback as a senior. I wish I did have another quarterback because he is one of the best receivers around."
Rivals.com's recruiting analyst, Jason Howell, concurs with Williams on Smith's prospects at wide receiver.
"He has a long frame and long arms," Howell said, "and he is a plus-athlete. He is bit of a long strider, but he does have quick feet. He also has a good burst off the line…his size and athleticism makes him a very valuable addition at receiver and his experience at quarterback should also come in handy."
