Former Wyoming head coach Dave Christensen who worked as a consultant for ASU football this past season is poised to be the Sun Devils’ new offensive line coach. Christensen will begin his duties following the Sun Bowl, as current offensive line coach Rob Sale will coach in that contest.

Christensen spent 19 years as an assistant under Head Coach Gary Pinkel, first at Toledo (1992-2000) then at Missouri (2001-08). He served as Offensive Coordinator under Pinkel from 1997-2008. While at Missouri, Christensen devised a no-huddle attack that helped the Tigers advance to the Big 12 Championship Game in 2007 and 2008. For his efforts, Christensen was named 2007 National Offensive Coordinator of the Year by Rivals.com.

Christensen was Wyoming’s head coach from 2009-13 and posted a record of 27-35. He guided the Cowboys to two appearances in the New Mexico Bowl during his five years in Laramie (2009-2013). His last coaching assignment was as Offensive Line Coach and Run Game Coordinator at Texas A&M (2015). All in all, he has 35 years of coaching experience.

This hire nearly completes the offensive staff for ASU. Last year’s wide receivers coach, Rob Likens, was promoted to offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, and now his old role will need to filled. Running backs coach John Simon will remain on staff.

ASU’s is still seeking to fill the defensive coordinator position and the rest of the position coaching staffs on that side of the ball. Special teams and outside linebackers coach Shawn Slocum is expected to remain on staff.
