Iowa Western Community College center De'Quon Lake has been on Arizona State’s recruiting radar for several months now, and last weekend the 6-10 245-pound prospect officially visited Tempe and recapped that trip and his recruiting process with DevilsDigest.com.

“I liked the practice facility, the dorms, and I liked how the coaches were straight up with me,” Lake said of his visit. “They told me that they really needed size and told me where I would stand in the program with playing time. They like my inside presence, shot blocking, rebounding, and scoring. I know I have to work more on shooting with my left hand. I also want to add 15 lbs.

“I met with some of the players and they told me Arizona State is a good school and they will take care of you. The tutors make sure that you work hard to get your degree. They said that playing there you would get a lot of exposure.”

Lake was born in the U.S. Virgin Islands and moved to Newport News, Virginia in the eighth grade and he later prepped at Menchville High School. As a sophomore for the 25-7 Reivers Lake led his team with 13.5 ppg (shooting 67.6 percent from the field), 7.2 rpg and 1.5 bpg. He earned NJCAA Region XI honors his freshman season and last summer he was invited to the Jerry Mullen’s Top 100 Juco Camp, recognizing the center as one of the Top 100 returning NJCAA players in the nation.

The center commented that he only has two more schools he plans to visit before he’s scheduled to make a decision in April.

“I’m visiting Rutgers on April 7th,” Lake said, “and I’ll visit Kansas State on April 14th. I’m going to make a decision after I take all my visits. I’m going to look at where I stand playing time, a school that will make me better every day academics wise and basketball wise, and coaches that care.”
