Last week and for the second time during that period, a 2018 Arizona State prospect committed to the school sight unseen. This time, it was former Colorado State pledge Spencer Lovell who needless to say gave his recent official visit to Tempe very high marks.

“I liked everything about my visit,” Lovell said. “The weather – that blew my mind. It was 85 degrees there and 25 back home – can’t beat that. Coach Edwards, Coach Christensen and all the guys were really cool. Coach Edwards’ energy really stood out to me and is just a down to earth really good guy. The facilities were really nice and I had no clue that Arizona State had these nice facilities. I was also blown away by the steak dinner (at Mastro’s) too. I was really happy I visited there. I just loved the atmosphere and the academics – you can really tell that they want to help you earn your degree.

“The coaches see me more of tackle for sure with my length. They like my run blocking and how I can bend and move. When I watched game film what stood out to me is how physical they play. I was hosted by Corey (Stephens) and he showed me around campus telling me (as an ASU player) what to do and not to do, and it was a good time hanging out with him and the rest of the linemen. "

The chance of Lovell changing his commitment from Colorado State was naturally highly probable once it was learned that he was going to take his trip to Tempe this past weekend (he also visited UCLA the prior weekend) but what was unknown is that his mind was already made up before even stepping foot on the ASU campus.

“I committed to Arizona State on Thursday,” Lovell stated. “But the whole visit completely reassured me.”

Lovell is the second ASU prospect to make his commitment to the program public since the end of the early signing period and also the second offensive lineman pledge in this class joining Ralph Frias. The Sun Devils also added offensive lineman and Stanford graduate transfer Casey Tucker.

Lovel’s commitment brings to 2018 class’ size to 13.
