Jamaal Lewis reinstated; will play at Colorado

Arizona State senior wide receiver Jamaal Lewis was reinstated to the football team, coach Dirk Koetter announced on Wednesday, and he will play on Saturday when the team travels to his hometown state to play the Colorado Buffaloes.
Lewis missed the first two games of the season after being charged with criminal speeding on Aug. 30. He was pulled over by a Department of Public Safety officer on the Loop 101 returning to Tempe from Scottsdale while reportedly driving in excess of 110 miles per hour.

A source close to the investigation told ASUDevils.com that Lewis was given a breathalyzer test after the DPS officer that stopped him smelled alcohol coming from inside the vehicle. Lewis reportedly did not register a .08 or above on the test, but there remains a possibility Lewis could still be charged with DUI.
Following practice on Wednesday, Koetter did not comment specifically on the cause of Lewis' suspension.
"Jamaal did something that was stupid," Koetter said. "It was selfish, and it was dangerous. We can't have that kind of behavior. To give up two games of your senior season is a lot."
Lewis, who came to the program from Colorado Springs, could face an additional punishment Koetter said, if new information becomes available that would warrant such action.
The 6-foot-4, 229-pounder had 23 catches for 446 yards last season while playing in nine games for the program at tight end. He made the switch to wide receiver in the off-season, and is currently with the second-team on the depth chart at the split end position (x-receiver), where he is behind Mike Jones.
Terry Richardson and Rudy Burgess are listed as Co-No. 1 on the depth chart at the flanker position (z-receiver). Burgess is questionable for the Colorado game due to a concussion he sustained versus Nevada.
