As someone who was lightly recruited out of high school, Ceejhay French-Love felt overlooked for a while now. Therefore, the tight end out of East Los Angeles College was more than happy to sign with Arizona State as he aims to prove his doubters wrong.

French-Love prepped at Long Beach (Calif.) High School and signed with Colorado Mesa, Division II program. Later on, he moved closer to home to play at East Los Angeles College. In 2016 he hauled in 25 receptions for 403 yards and nine touchdowns for the Huskies in just nine contests. Eligibility wise the tight end is a 3 for 2 player.

The tight end arrived today in Tempe for a visit and didn’t need much convincing to commit on the spot and officially sign his letter of intent with ASU.

“Arizona State was really the only Division I school to offer me,” French-Love said. “Coach Josh Martin offered me about month ago. What really made an impression on me is the new offense which will be very tight end oriented. I really liked that.

“This was my first time visiting here. I really loved the atmosphere and the coaches. I didn’t know the uniforms would be this nice. The players I met were just cool people, like myself. I knew I would fit in here when I met them. I loved everything on the visit, so I said ‘let’s run with this.’ Everything was real nice.”

French-Love said his versatility was a trait that greatly appealed to the Sun Devil staff, and was the reason why the program recruited him in earnest.

“They like my blocking skills,” French-Love stated, “my route running skills, my speed, my hands…all of that.”

When I asked the tight end to describe his own skill set, he replied: “Stay tuned. The whole Pac-12 will know me, I promise you.”

The tight end admitted that he did plan to commit to Arizona State once he came on his visit since he wanted to make a statement to all the other conference programs that a couple of years ago decided not to pursue him.

“A lot of Pac-12 schools talked to me out of high school,” French-Love recalled, “but they talked to me once and then I never talked again to them. I never talked to Arizona State then, but when they offered I said ‘yup, I’m going to show the whole Pac-12 what they were missing.’

“I have a huge chip…a boulder on my shoulder.”

French-Love is scheduled to graduate in the summer and arrive on the ASU campus in July.
