Shannon Forman commits to Arizona State

It was anything but a lengthy recruiting process between the Baton Rouge, La. defensive lineman and the Sun Devils, but it was certainly time well spent as Shannon Forman committed to ASU on national Letter of Intent Day. Forman delivered the news to the coaches last week and made his pledge public today.

“I feel it was the right thing for me to do,” Forman told DevilsDigest.com ahead of his public announcement. “I prayed on it, asking God if this was my destination. I felt he gave me the signs that it was. I fell in love with everything out there, the team being a family and just living there. Being there made me feel like I was at home.

“I like the defense coach Phil Bennett runs and I feel that I can fit in immediately. Coach Bennett is a laid-back guy and not somebody that pressures you. He sits back and lets you talk, and listens to you. Talking to him I felt a really good connection. That’s why I committed.”

Forman added that the emphasis Arizona State puts on academics and graduating its student-athletes, with one of the best rates in the Pac-12, was another aspect that genuinely resonated with him on his visit as he was talking to head coach Todd Graham.

“He told me that as a parent he would want his son to go to a school where he knew the coach would take care of him,” Forman said. “He told my mom and that he would take care of her son. I know if I go there I won’t be by myself and I can always talk to the coaches if I needed to. I liked hearing that.”

Forman said that the ASU coaches like his abilities at either defensive line interior position (1 or 3-techniue) and added that his work ethic was something that was very appealing to the Sun Devil staff when they were pursuing him.

“I have a quiet mindset, I don’t get too hyped,” Forman described. “But on the field, I bring it and coach Bennett said I had a great motor. He likes my explosiveness and playing violently. He likes how I’m constantly running. If I keep that motor going I can be dominant at the Pac-12 level. I’m not a vocal leader, but I lead in the way I play.”

The lineman chose ASU over Missouri who he visited this past weekend, Tulane and Arkansas State.
