The Midwest City, Okla. defensive back’s visit to Tempe may have taken place a month and a half ago, but it resonated strongly enough for Evan Fields to announce his pledge to the Sun Devils this morning.

The 6-2 190-pound Fields chose ASU over the likes of UCLA, TCU, Notre Dame, Kansas State and Oregon among others. Midwest City head coach Darrell Hall described Fields in a previous Rivals.com interview as a sure tackler and an overall perfectionist with a strong work ethic.
“You may have a drill or something that we do in practice or try to get done,” Hall said, “and he may not be as good as you think he needs to be at it, but he’s going to go to work on it and try to be perfect with it. He’s a kid that’s looking to please the coach by looking to be everything he possibly can.”
“I think his future is very bright. He’s a young man who doesn’t shy away from contact. He’s going to work hard, and he wants to be the best at it. He doesn’t want to be one of the guys, he wants to be the best guy.”
Fields said in another previous interview to Rivals.com following his official visit to Tempe that Arizona State’s persistence even back then didn’t go unnoticed by him.
“The coaching staff, they have been recruiting me for a long time,” Fields noted. “They offered me before I got a bunch of big schools, so I am a priority there I feel like. They just made me feel comfortable there. the players were awesome
“They were in Oklahoma, and they came to a team camp and saw me play, and that's when they offered me. Coach Rushing's been down here, and we have a really great relationship, and Coach Patterson's been down here too."
Fields is the 17th known commitment of ASU’s 2017 recruiting class and is projected to play at either the Spur linebacker or Bandit (strong) safety position.
