Decision day for White

Arizona State could be on the verge of landing its highest rated quarterback commitment in history.

Brady White, the nation's No. 3 pro-style prospect nationally and a 6-foot-2, 186 pound junior at Hart High School in Newhall, Calif., is expected to announce his college pick Friday at 3:30 p.m.
Arizona State, Cal and Oregon are the finalists for White, who has double-digit BCS scholarship offers in the wake of a 2013 season that saw him throw for 4,535 yards with 41 touchdowns and 18 interceptions. White also had 525 rushing yards and nine touchdown carries.
The Sun Devils have signed just one Rivals100 overall prospect at quarterback in school history, Andrew Walter in 2000. In addition to being ranked No. 3 at the position, White is the No. 71 overall prospect in the country and No. 8 recruit in California.
In the last 15 years, the highest rated quarterback other than Walter to sign with the Sun Devils is Derek Shaw, who was No. 4 in the 2005 class. Shaw struggled almost as soon as he arrived on campus in Tempe and transferred after just one season in Tempe.
If White selects the Sun Devils it will not only give the program its highest rated prospect at the position ever but also its best quarterback class in history. The Sun Devils already have earned a commitment from Chandler High School standout Bryce Perkins, the No. 12 dual-threat quarterback in the 2015 class.
Only USC would be in consideration for a better quarterback class nationally than the Sun Devils, and even that would be debatable. The Trojans have pledges from the nation's No. 2 and No. 12 pro-style quarterback recruits in the class. No other school has multiple Top-20 quarterback commitments.
White visited ASU last weekend, a second trip to the school's campus in a matter of weeks after an earlier trip to Tempe for one of the team's spring scrimmages. On the second visit White was joined by Hart teammate and fellow Rivals100 member, wide receiver Trent Irwin.
Irwin is the No. 8 wide receiver recruit and No. 85 overall prospect nationally by Rivals.com. In addition to ASU, Cal and Stanford have been several of the strongest players in Irwin's recruitment.
After Walter and Shaw, ASU's next highest quarterback signees in terms of ranking were Sam Keller, the No. 9 pro-style player in the 2003 class, Michael Eubank, the No. 8 dual-threat quarterback in 2011, and Michael Affleck, the No. 13 pro-style recruit in 2003, the same class as Keller. That was far and away ASU's best quarterback class in history but would be clearly outclassed by a haul of White and Perkins, at least in terms of rankings.
