Cooper leaves a positive impression on ASU

2018 Lehi, Utah quarterback Cammon Cooper may be still seeking an offer from ASU, but his recent performance in the Sun Devils’ camp could bring him closer to achieving that feat. We caught up with Cooper following that event to get his impressions of ASU and his recruitment.

“I really enjoyed all the drills at camp,” Cooper said, “and talking to all of the coaches. They liked me and were impressed with what I did. I felt that I have built a stronger relationship with Coach Lindsey and that was really the main reason for coming down to the camp.

“This was my second visit. I was here about a month or two ago for spring practice. So I toured the facilities when I was here, and this visit was just more about working out with the coaches. Coach Lindsey was detailing all the little things I had to work on.

The 6-4 185-pound Cooper threw for 2,563 yards in his sophomore season for Lehi High School and completed 58.3 percent of his passes. He posted 22 touchdowns and 16 interceptions during that year.

“The biggest thing I need to work on is gaining weight,” Cooper stated, “because I’m 15 pounds lighter than everyone else that is getting recruited very well. I’m just 16 years old so maturity wise I’m behind other quarterbacks, so I have room to grow.

“Coach Lindsey saw me in spring practice and said that I’m making all the throws I need to, mentally and physically I play well, and I have good mechanics and good footwork.”

Cooper said that talking to head Coach Todd Graham and the current ASU quarterbacks he met; there was one common theme communicated and one that was very appealing to him.

“They all talked about how disciplined the program is and how everyone takes responsibility,” Cooper described. “They said that this is a program that makes you not only a better player, but a better person and I like that. I like that Coach Graham is straight forward.

“Coach Graham said that he was impressed with me and he said that he was planning to come out to one of my games this year. He also wanted me to come down to one of their home games. It was good building a relationship with him.”

Oregon State and Weber State are the only programs who have offered Cooper thus far. A visit to Utah State this week could produce his next offer, as could a weekend visit to Utah.

“I really like Arizona State and their facilities,” Cooper remarked. “If I committed to them, by the time I would get there the stadium would be brand new. I was really impressed with Arizona State

“I’m going to commit to the school which is the best fit for me. I want to go to a school where I have a good relationship with my offensive coordinator and head coach.”
