Better Late Than Never David Smith a Sun Devil

Better late than never Arizona State today added another defensive lineman to the recruiting class of 2004 with the addition of Chandler Hamilton defensive end David Smith. Smith was Hamilton’s all-time sack leader and the anchor on the defensive line that led Hamilton to the state 5A championship in 2003.
At 6-foot-3 255-pounds Smith is a solid prospect on the defensive line that could have the frame to grow into a defensive tackle. Smith’s arrival along the defensive line boosts ASU’s biggest need and adds to the Arizona connections that coach Koetter has been sure to tap on a consistent basis.

Smith will join defensive teammates Adam Vincent the top linebacker in the state in 2003 and safety Myrio Davis the best athlete prospect in the state of Arizona. For the season Smith racked up 65 tackles, 22 quarterback hurries, nine and half sacks, and eight quarterback deflections. His performance was good enough to selected all-state for the second straight year.
Vincent chose ASU over offers from Colorado State and Utah. He received a qualifying score on his SAT and has the grades and qualifies to come to ASU. ASU coaches recruiting Smith for all the right reasons now are rewarded with a player who kept at it with his academics to earn his scholarship offer.
"I grew up a a fan of ASU, even though I didn't watch college all that much." stated Smith in an earlier interview almost a year to the day he became a Sun Devil. ASU coaches were loyal to Smith and Smith was loyal to ASU by signing with them. An excellent pick up for the Sun Devils.
