AJ Carter is a late official addition to ASU’s 2018 recruiting class

It hasn’t been a smooth recruiting process for the Many, Louisiana running back but it’s one that culminated to his full satisfaction. The Sun Devils’ persistence with AJ Carter resulted in an official visit this past weekend and a subsequent pledge and signing of a National Letter of Intent today.

“I loved my visit to Arizona State,” Carter said. “The academics really stood out. We had an hour session of ‘The championship of life’ and I visited almost every SEC school and I didn’t see anything like this. The coaches there mean what they say. They show a lot of passion in what they do.

“Before coming on the visit my head football coach told me that ‘Coach Herm Edwards will be just like me, and have a lot of energy.’ And he was right. (running backs coach) Coach Simon is my dude. He’s like a father to me. Coach Simon and I have been talking for the longest. When I was committed to UCLA we were still talking. When I decommitted from UCLA I didn’t put anything on social media and Coach Simon was the only coach I told.”

Carter was the only running back in Louisiana that LSU had offered, and was previously committed to that school as well.

“I committed to Arizona State on my visit,” Carter remarked. “It was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up. They have two running backs leaving and I know I can come in there and play as a freshman. Coaches have told me that I’m a complete back and I do it all.”

Carter joins two other running backs in this 2018 class, Brock Sturges from Allen, Tex. and Demetrious Flowers from Bellflower, Calif.
