Familiar faces and a welcoming environment during his official visit to Tempe have created a significant impression on Lancaster (Tex.) running back Kewan Lacy, now including Arizona State on the list of suitors he will concentrate on prior to an August decision.
“Visiting there, it felt like family; it felt like home,” Lacy said. “I’ve known coach Greene (Defensive analyst Trent Greene) since my freshman year. My teammate (incoming freshman), Kyson Brown, is going to play there, and I also know (incoming freshman) Keith Abney. On my visit, I didn’t expect the environment and the city to be that nice. In some colleges, players go home anytime that they can get, but Arizona State is a college where players want to stay there, and that is a place where they want to be. I like that a lot.”
As a junior, Lacy posted 392 rushing yards (averaging 5.5 yards) for the 9-3 Tigers, which was second only to Brown's 707 yards rushing yards on the team. Overall, the ASU prospect tallied 527 all-purpose yards and scored ten (eight rushing, two receiving) touchdowns. Following that 2022 campaign Lacy was a Texas District 7-5A-II first-team selection.
“(ASU running backs) Coach Aguano is recruiting me,” Lacy commented, “and he thinks that I can bring the same skills as one of his former running backs who now plays in Tampa Bay (Rachaad White). He said that he could coach me like he coached him. When I watched film on my visit, I really liked the type of offense that they were running. Me and him were talking on the drawing (board), and we really connected that way. I like that when he recruits you, he just acts like himself, and he’s not trying to be anyone else.
“I was rolling around a lot with (head) coach Dillingham, and I got to talk to him a lot. He’s a whole personality and not just a head coach. He really is a head coach for the players.”
TCU, Miami, and Ole Miss are the schools in his Top-6 that Lacy has unofficially visited. Those three schools, along with Nebraska, are scheduled to get an official visit by the running back in June. Lacy indicated that he plans to commit to the school of his choice closer to his season opener on August 25th.
“When I choose a school, I’m gonna look at the whole environment,” Lacy remarked. “Is it a place where I want to be and build my brand there? I want to go to a school where I know I will be coached and developed to become a better man and a better football player.”
