Hodges, a two-sport athlete with scholarship offers for basketball from Texas Rio Grande Valley and Grand Canyon University, decided to accept his first football offer from Arizona State and play close to home. "I was born in Tempe and grew up in Mesa watching ASU play," said Hodges. "I knew that's where I wanted to be."

Curtis Hodges had 51 catches and 6 TDs in a pass-heavy Mountain View offense in 2015, and despite also playing defensive end, and having a frame that might suit him for tight end some day, Hodges says Arizona State has been pursuing him as a wide receiver. "I spoke with Coach (Chip) Lindsey and Coach (Jay) Norvell a lot the past few months and we always talked about playing wide receiver."

Hodges will likely pursue football full-time now that he's committed to Arizona State. He credits his decision not only to his farmiliarity with ASU football, but the Sun Devils' pursuit of him as a prospect. "Knowing they wanted me made it easy."

Hodges is Arizona State's 8th verbal commit for the 2017 class, and their 5th local pledge, including Basha QB Ryan Kelley, and Saguaro OL Corey Stephens, TE Jared Poplawski and LB Kyle Soelle.
