Updated: Abreu suspended following arrest

Redshirt freshman safety Ramon Abreu has been suspended indefinitely from the football program at Arizona State following his arrest for felony sexual conduct with a minor, ASUDevils.com has learned.

The alleged incident(s) took place while Abreu was an 18-year-old high school senior at Marcos de Niza in Tempe and involved a 14-year-old freshman at the school.

Two souces at ASU said the school was unaware of anything in Abreu's background that would have kept the school from signing him when he was added to program last February.

Felony sexual conduct with a minor is a Class 2 felony if the alleged victim is 14 or younger, punishable by up to five years in prison.

An ASU spokesperson said Abreu has been suspended from the team indefinitely but could not comment further due to privacy laws.

Abreu, 5-foot-10, 170 pounds, redshirted in his first season at ASU after a stellar prep career which saw him win the Ed Doherty Award given annually to the state's top player.
