Wolford after Ohio OL
Johnstown (OH) Johnstown Monroe OL Skyler Schofner is one of the handful of Midwest trenchmen that Ohio native Eric Wolford has offered since joining the South Carolina staff.
Schofner now claims around twenty scholarship offers.
"I haven't picked up any new ones very recently," he said. "The most recent was probably Purdue."
One SEC team that has stepped in with a scholarship offer is the South Carolina Gamecocks.
"I like them," he said. "I know their head coach (Steve Spurrier) has a lot of history and has won a lot of games. I want to get to know more about them."
Offensive line coach Eric Wolford has tapped into the state of Ohio to find lineman and Schofner likes what he hears from the first-year line coach.
"He's a great guy," the big man said of Wolford. "He's really nice and I like him a lot."
Schofner has a plan for narrowing his list.
"I want to wait until the summer and take some visits," he said. "I will narrow it down to five or ten schools."
A summertime visit to Columbia could be in the making.
"I have one planned but I don't know when yet," he said. "I don't know too much about the program and want to get to know more."
Who is in the running to make the cut aside from the Gamecocks?
"I like Michigan State, Michigan, Wisconsin, Kentucky, North Carolina, Purdue, places like that," he said. "I want to visit all of those schools this summer."
Schofner wants to ensure that he has the resources he needs to succeed at the next level.
"I'm looking for good facilities and a good coaching staff," he said. "I just want to make sure that I have the help I need in college."
The three-star lineman has a goal in mind for his senior season.
"I just want to go hard every play and not quit. It's my last year so I want to go all out."
