Spurgeon's Reputation Really Growing
Without much fanfare few players in the state of Oklahoma have attracted more early offers than Owasso, Okla. offensive tackle Trent Spurgeon. The 6-foot-8, 270-pound blocker shared a line with two future Big 12 prospects in Brandon Webb and Gavin Howard and it seems there will be three Owasso Rams in the Big 12 by the start of the 2010 season.
While Spurgeon isn't sure where he'll end up and is starting to get mail from across the country he has a strong feeling of what conference he'd like to play in.
"I got an early offer from Stanford and recently have picked up offers from Kansas State and Texas Tech," Spurgeon said. "To have those offers early, it just meant to me that maybe I was one of the elite players in the country.
"If Texas Tech thought I was good enough to play for them, that makes me feel pretty good.
"Lately I've been getting a lot of new mail. I've gotten letters from Ohio State, which was real surprising. Also I get stuff from Texas A&M, Nebraska, and Duke.
To get all of that attention makes me feel great. I mean to me it says I'm one of the better players around and I never thought of myself that way but with the attention I guess coaches think I'm pretty good."
